[2750] [SANTA ANNA to FILISOLA]

Army of Operations Most Excellent Senor:

On this date I am writing General D. Marlin P. Cos, Commander of the Division of operations against Velasco, the following: "As soon as the most Excellent Senor General of Division D. Vicente Filisola, places in your command a section of 500 men and three artillery pieces, your Lordship will cross to the other side of the river, and will proceed with the aforesaid section lo the above-mentioned Fort Velasco, which fort your Lordship will take possession of, whether or not it be occupied by the enemy. "From Velasco you will send me to this place the corresponding report and you will try to effect contact with General Don Jose Urrea, who should be around Matagorda or Brazoria. In your Lordship's passage through the valley of this river, you will gather some food supplies from the inhabitants that you might run across so that you should not lack the necessary food for the troops; since the Commissary does not have the food supply, it is necessary to acquire it from the enemy. "I trust that your Lordship 'it skill and zeal for the best service will leave nothing for me to wish in the fulfillment of this important mission." I am sending you a copy for your knowledge and subsequent action. For God and Liberty. General Headquarters of Thompson's Pass, Brazos River, April 13, 1836. Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana. Most Excellent Senor General of Division, D. Vicente Filisola, Second in Command of the Army of Operations.
