Army Orders [c. April 13, 1836]
1. Roll call at revielle, (5 0 clock) retreat (sunset) and Tattoo, (9 0 clock) when all lights will be put out except in the tents of Officers employed on duty. 2. Silence is to he preserved after Tattoo. 3. At the first taps of the Drum, each man will take his place in line. 4. In case of an alarm, the men will form on their ground and await orders. 5. The Officer of the Day, will make the Guard rounds at 9, 12 & 4 O'clock in the night. He will receive the Watch Word from the Commanding Officer and communicate the same. 6. Guards to be mounted and relieved at 9 O'clock A.M. 7. When a relief is leaving the Guard fire, the remainder of the Guard will remain under arms until its return. 8. No Sentinel will sit down on post, unless ordered. 9. The Guard will be responsible for all prisoners put in Custody. 10. To Desert or Sleep on Post, will be death by Law. 11. The Guard will form wherever the different calls take place. 12. Any person quitting camp, without leave, will be regarded as a deserter and treated as such. 13. No man is to pass the Lines with arms, unless passed by a Field Officer. 14. The Field Officers of the regiment, the General and his Staff only have power to pass persons through the lines. 15. The men always to parade with arms, and to sleep with their arms in their reach. 16. No shooting within one mile of Camp, or on march without leave. 17. Each mess will cook for its members on Guard, and take their provisions to the Guard fire. 18. All horses are to be brought within the line of Sentinels before dark. 19. All expresses arriving in Camp, and all intelligence, will first report to the Commander in Chief. 20. All Horses on arriving in Camp, will be staked down, tied, or close hobbled. Those that may not be attended to, will be liable to be condemned to the public use.
