desires that you take all lawful measures to arrest any person who, under the orders of the Mexican authorities, may be engaged in exciting the Indians to war; and that every proper effort be used to discover and detect such unjustifiable project, if any be attempted; and in maintaining our neutrality on the southwestern frontier of Louisiana, in the quarter you have already been assigned lo duly, under the instructions of the Secretary of War heretofore communicated to you, that you employ, if necessary, the force which has been placed at your command. [2715] [NACOGDOCHES RESOLUTIONS] Committee Room Nacogdoches April 11th 1836 At a meeting of the Committee this morning the foregoing information from Messrs. Menard, C. and Wm. Sims was communicated and the following resolutions passed. 1st- Resolved that Gen. Mason be recommended to the people as a suitable individual to act as military commandant of this municipality until the Govmt shall make some provision on this subject. He shall act under orders of the Comt. 2nd- Resolved that Gen. Mason be requested to proceed forth with lo Fort Jessup for the purpose of soliciting aid for the protection of families now exposed to hostile Indians. 3rd- Resolved that Gen. Mason, in case he is appointed by the people, shall have the power lo appoint one to perform his duties during his absence to F. Jessup. 4th- Resolved that the Comt. be reorganized. 5- Resolved that the new Comt. consist of 5 only. 6- Res: Thal the Comt. recommend to the people that the new Coml. be composed of David Huffman, Henry Raguel, F.
