I have the honor to enclose to you, the copy of a leller from my volunteer aid de camp Major Perry who came recom- mended to me and to whom I have only extended acts of kindness-while on furlough to Brazoria he became acquainted with Col Potter, and I presume their intercourse suggested the character of the letter-It is an order in camp that aJl letters shall be examined by the Genl. Comdg. This letter came to my tent and when I under stood the express was starting I was folding all lellers to you and finding this one sealed I opened it, not suspecting its contents I found them to me surprise as they are. You can judge of them. I will only remark that at this crisis the shafts of envy or malice should rest in the quiver. To whom his remarks apply beside myself, I am worn down in Body by fatigue, and really take my rest most in the morning, for I watch nearly all night, instead of being in a state of insanity I fear I am too irritable for my duties. Our crisis is too important to indulge in any feeling but honorable emulation to save our country-I pity the man who loves office-God help him. I wish more would deserve office, and we would have more men to defend it. I have the honor to be
