... We are 500 strong in the fort and 200 strong in the town. Santa Ana has 5000 troops al San Antone, JOO miles from here and we expect him Here daily.... Davy Crocket and James Bowy are fighting al San Antone like Tigers 200 Americans arc in the fort againsts 5000 troops and Santa Ana at the head the fort is the Strongest in the world they have thrown 2000 Bums and not kild a single American but 3 wounded 1800 mexicans are Laying on the field Dead it is a Real landed fact Santa Ana comes lo a parley Everry half our and sends a flag of trusc to Carry his Dead it takes 12 mexicans to whip l American they are old convicts Presd to fight they have to whip them to fight I like texas heller Every Day wild Horses plenty mustangs Land here is so rich you can raise cotton sugar tobacco anything at all They turn the Cattle out for 2 or 3 months an they come home fall My love to all at home Independece has been Dcclard. [BARSENA et al DESPOSITION] Copy. Examination of Andrew Barsena and Ansolma Bergara. Gonzales, 11 Mar. 1836. Andrea Barsena, says that last Saturday night Anselmo Bergara arrived at the rancho of Don Jose Flores, where he who declares was and that Bergara informed him that his mother had solicited him Bergara to take her son if he could find him lo the Colorado River to avoid the military who was gathering up all they could and making soldiers of them. Antonio Peres left the rancho of Don Jose Ma. Arocha on Sunday morning last and returned in the evening with the notice that the soldiers of Santa Anna had that morning~ entered the Alamo and killed all the men that was inside and that he saw about 500 of the Mexican soldiers that had been killed and as many wounded.
