The cannon was starled from here on yeslerday morning, most of Lhe provisions loday, the cannon is moving on the direct rout to your army, the provisions is going on the lower Road and will faU lower down the river. An express just arrived here from Capt. Walker who says that he has been ordered by Maj. ~lartin to march his command to Fort Bend as the enemy had appeared in force in ten miles below San Felipe that his spies had driven in. It may be Lhe army is foUowing down the river, should that be the fact it would be better to have sent the cannon to some point below, il has been two days gone. I would therefore suggest so soon as this is received, you send some one on with directions lo order it lo the point you think best &c. Capt. A. C. Allen has not left here yet but will I believe tomorrow. We have appointed a Gentleman by the name of William Carper Regimental Surgeon, Gentleman, we arc induced to believe of fine all accounts he came to the country under assurances of an appointment in the army regimental cavalry. I have directed him to report himself al headquarters of the army and await your orders, he is a gentleman of fine address and I hope will be useful in the service. There were some letters received here last night from Nacogdoches, and as far east as Fort Jesup some three or four hundred troops are on their way at different points, so stated, the general information of a favorable character for Texas. There is a subject before the Cabinet of some difficulty the establishment of a Judidary to decide on admiralty cases and prizes. Information has been forwarded here from B. 1-1. Holland Capt of artillery under Col Fanning containing a detailed account of the unfortunates under his command he says that he thinks that one thousand Mexicans were killed in the fight, they acknowledge three hundred, He confirms the statement of the capululation that Wards party were taken & [torn] eighty five men al Copano all carried lo Goliad and marched out and shot, he made his escape.
