I write you freely and confidentially and from none other than the most friendly motives and feelings you well know. But could I see you, I have much to say that I do not choose lo commit to paper. No exertion has been spared to do every thing for Galveston. Lynch has been doing all he could to prevent me from getting aid of any kind and to thwart the views of the Government there and elsewhere. I believe him and certain others may have to lend a stronger hand, to aid the cause, than they think of at present. If they dont look sharp they will be at the Island sooner than expected. Let me once gel well prepared at the Island, and if you dont see some energetic measures adopted to bring lories to the proper sense of their duty, I am mistaken. Query.- had you not heller have a public store keeper appointed-one to receive and account for all the stores belonging to the Government.- To receipt for all he does receive, and not suffered to let an article go without an order from some body authorized to draw? Dear Wife - I will advise you to pack up all things in lmnks that can be moved conveniently, as we shall have to move immediately. It is reported by the Cherokees that the Mexicans are coming from the west on us. Tell your mother to prepare as [soon as] possible for moving. I will gel one or two horses for her. The Cherokees have killed an American, and I shall be compelled lo remain with them lo keep them quiet. The Chiefs will nol agree for me lo lea,•c them al present. C. II. Sims
