To the Honorbl the Seely of War Thos J Rusk Dear Sir
It is aJl important at a time like this that our army should be amply supplied with all the necessary supplies & that the diferent routs leading to & from it should be put in a state to enable troops to march on to our relief and as the great fear of many that would come to our relief is that they should be cut off by the Mexican forces should they attempt to come by sea, therefore I deem it all important that the route leading from Natchitoches on to the Brazos should be put in a state to enable troops to march through. That country is at present destitute of supplies of any kind. There ought in my opinion to be a depot for stores at Gaines's on the Sabine & others at San Augustine, Nacogdoches, McLane, and at the Trinidad, in order to have troops pass through without delay. Should this report meet your views I herewith transmit to you a requisition of the supplies necessary for that object 300 Brls Biscuit 25 do M Pork 1000 lbs Bacon 20 Sacks Coffee 10 Brls Sugar 500 Stand Muskets 25 Kegs Powder 2000 lbs lead The above bill of articles promptly & properly distributed on that road, would facilitate the movements of our Army very much and if it meets the approbation of your honor I will forthwith repair & have it in complete operation I have the honor to be Sir Your obt St. &c A. Huston Qr Mr Genl
