War Department Harrisburg April 9th 1836
To Genl. Sam Houslon Commander in Chief
Sir I I wrote to you last night under the expectation that the express would have gone out immediately. I am directed to say Lo you that Capt. Scolt who lives below this place has offered to the Government the use of a small vessel in Galveston, provided his son can be put in command of it. It is thought she will be very useful in assisting in carrying on the public works al that place. Capt. Scott son George W. Scott is in your army. You are requested to send him and Abram Williston who is as I understand to be employed with Scott, to this place as soon as practicable to be subject to the orders of this Government. I am requested to say to you that James Earl, Albert Pratt, Edward Branch, David Henson and Thomas Earl who are on furlow here from the Army these men have consented to go on Galveston Island and subject Lo the orders of the Government; therefore they will not be considered as deserting the camp. I would suggest that a few furlow be given as possible, when men get away they always fine some excuse for delaying their return or not returning. I requested Gov. Zavala lo make out the particular of the information important to be known obtained and communicated to you he promised he would. He states this morning that San Anna intended to shoot every American that fell in his hands.
