which amounts nearly lo a constant stale of insanity. Capt. Allen of the regular army with his command has not yet reached us. We have not a single piece of artillery and men are leaving us every day by tens and twenties, dissatisfied with the unhealthy situation of the Camp and disgusted with the inactivity and want of energy in the general. Nohvithstanding what I have said, I am still sanguine of our success, for I calculate much upon the cowardice of our enemy, and in a fight the command of this army would of a matter of necessity devolve upon men who are qualified to conduct it. Oblige me by acknowledging the recipt of this communi- cation and point out in any way in which I can be of service to you.

E. las instrucciones que me ha parecido conveniente dejarle, al marchar para Columbia y Brazoria, a donde me es preciso dirigirme para abreviar mas las operaciones del ejercito, en todas direcciones. Nada mas tengo que advertir a la penetracionly conocimiento de V. E., porque bien sabra conducirse en los demas casos estraordinarios que se ofrezcan. Reproduzco a V. E. mi consideracion y aprecio.
