In compliance with your orders of the 28 March last, I have succeeded in collecting all the public stores that were at Brazoria, & Velasco, & which were on board the Sehr Pensylvania Shenandoah & Flash and have them now in Galveston Bay The stores at Matagorda and Coxes point I have not been able to get, as all our armed vessels were out of the harbor of Velasco therefore no convoy could be had & I could not get a vessel to go to that place without. I am not prepared to give a detailed account of our stores as they were so scattered that I have not been able to get one I shall expect to be governed by your directions in regard to the points at which it will be necessary to direct public Store Houses to be built &c Respectully Yr ob St &c A Huston Qr Mr Genl To Bridg Genl Thos J Rusk. I have just been informed that John Linn late of Victoria is now in Harrisburg charged with being a spy of the Mexicans which I must say verry much surprised me. I have been acquainted with Mr Linn for some years and believe him to be a Gentleman and every way incapable of acting so base a part as being a spy for the enemy. I can further state that from my knowledge of the part he has acted I firmly believe him to be a true friend to his country and much opposed to the mexicans I also believe the circumstances which led to his arrest can be fully explained to the
