(2672] [GREEN to BOWIE)
April 9th 1836
To Col. R. P. Bowie Sir-
Under the commission you have received, you will proceed to complete your command as soon as practicable & as fast as you may have two or three more companies in readiness, you will order them to head quarters of our army to report themselves for duty. The commissons herewith enclosed are to be filled with the names of such officers as you may in your judgement appoint, which commissions will bear even dates with such appointments. I would advise that you mounted men go through via Opelouses to the Seal of Government & the infantry proceed via Orleans & Galveston Bay in Government vessels to the seat of government at which place they will receive the proper direction through the secretary of war. I do advise & recommend that all your men bring such arms into the service as they may respectively afford, and that you have such arms properly appraised & a list of the same filed for the use of the Government that they may know how to communicate for the same- you will also have such horses as may be carried into the service, and a list of the same filed for the Government. If any portion of your men should come to New Orleans, they will apply to the Texas Agency. In the city- in case of my absence- you are authorised such necessaries of food &c as your men may require & receipt for the same in the name of the Government.
I am with sincere Respl; your &c. Thomas J. Green Brigadier General of T. A.
