Col. R. P. Bowie Dear Sir
It is understood between us that the commission you have this day accepted of Colonel in the third regiment of my Brigade may if you please be resigned in favor of such other, gentleman as you please. Permit me dear sir to hope you will continue to hold your appointment (even should you not be able to go into active service) until such time as the Government of Texas may be pleased to offer you a place more suited to your distinguished merit- the influence of your holding a commission in the army of Texas will do much, very much towards the establishment of our Inde⢠pendence, by carrying into service many of the most gallant spirits in the U.S.
With Great Respect I take the liberty of subscribing myself your friend and obt servant Th. Jef. Green Brig. Genl. of the T. A.
