[2666] [BURNET to CITIZENS]

Executive Department Harrisbmgh 9th April 1836

Fellow Citizens of the Brasos.

It affords me great pleasure to communicate to you, the enclosed copy of the report of Capt Brown of the Schooner Invincible. The capture of the brig Pocket is not only highly benificial lo Texas by furnishing us with a large supply of provisions hut by crippling the operations of the enemy, and contributing to cut off his resources and rendering it more difficult for him to obtain supplies for the future, through the same odious channel. The Government will always take pleasure in imparting to the citizens every species of intelligence on which they can rely and which is calculated to cheer and animate us in the glorious struggle. Let us be active firm united and resolved upon success and abundant success will certainly crown our efforts Texas must and will he free and independant. The blood of her martyrs demands a speedy vengeance. Our noble army will soon inflict that vengeance on the base atrocious foe. Rally then fellow citizens to the standard of your country, and loose not the golden opportunity to rescue your country and to punish her dastard and merciless invaders. The enemy are resolved to extirpate every American from Texas. Will ·we be so extirpated and tamely relinquish all the benefits of our past toils, and all our hopes of future comfort to the impotent threats of an enemy, whose soldiership we despise, and whose treacherous barbarity we abhor. It cannot be. One hold prompt combined effort is sufficient to annihilate the detachment of ruffians in this side of the Colorado, and if well followed up, will soon drive the remainder beyond the Rio Grande- [David G. Burnet)
