It is hoped that you will pay some allention to this mailer. I have written you already a long letter and it is late al night, arrangements are making to fortify Galveston Island there is several pieces cannon brought round for the purpose. Many of the citizens have offered there assistance. If the war continues Galvestion will be an important place. The Brutus and Invincible will proceed to New Orleans to repair and to fit out for a cruise. The Independence Capt Hawkins will remain a few days in the Bay to assist in commencing the fortification and other purposes, then proceed on a cruise to the South west I hope you will give us some account of the enemy soon and teach them a lesson which they may not soon forget, you know I have been always your friend. I feel anxious that you should have the public confidence and retain it, the success of the cause some what depends upon a General having the confidence of his army. I have writlen more in the character of a friend than official. It has been said here that you ordered the burning of Sanfelipe I have contradicted it. I would likeyoube fully satisfied on the subject, not that I blame any one, but that every one's acts should be chargeable to themselves. I am with great respect yours &c. David Thomas Act.
