Sir
In compliance with your order I have attempted to·organize the force at this place subject to duty. When I arrived Mjr. Williamson had but few men enrolled for duty. I have now almost an entire company of Volunteers who performed their duty with great alacrity and good order. Things here now in great confusion, many families of all classes are camped in the bottoms on the east side of the Brazos and in most deplorable ·condition. Men Women and children subject to all the inconveniences of the dampness of a low bottom much overflowed & without medical attention. Under these circumstances I have appointed Dr. B. B. Goodrich Surgeon al this post until further ordered by yourself. Pettis has left in search of some deserters before I arrived at this Post & has not returned. I have thus far continued Mjr. Williamson with me because my want of information in regard to this part of the country rendered it necessary.
