make a compromise with them to wait only ten days, until I could hear the dccission of the government when Mr Hall should have explained our situation, hut could not obtain even that favour. I shall also advise Mr McKinny ofthcse circumstances & also of his promise to the agency that he would use his influence with the government immediately on his arrival in Texas to forward to us a check for the sum in Bank. Theinjunction on the Bank is not for the purpose of obtaining the money, my means for the business I transact are equal to that of Messrs Toby & Bro, or any other House in N Orleans. Even under the extreme pressure of the money market, had the same fund been transferred to the agency that have been transferred to others, the country would have been amply provided and the public credit fully maintained I enclose you a statement of the amounts due by this agency independent of all credits except the Insurance on the Tamilipas not collected, this amount has been sworn to by me before the Court. The sum of $20,000 is for a steamer now on her way from N York for Texas, $5000 is for Bread ordered on my private credit, & 4000 on the order and request of Capt Sarni Williams for shot shells Bombs &c. If the amount exhibited does not shew the Government who have exhibited the devotion & zeal of patriotism in the cause of Liberty & Texas, nothing I can write can do it. Rash as you may concieve my measures, I throw myself fearlessly into the hands of the Govt.- Whatever may be your determination in regard to the $10,000, I will cheerfully submit to it, the money shall remain in Bank until your determination is known, if that is against the agency, and the credit of Texas is forever sacrificed, I shall have this consolation, and I have not shrunk from what I deemed my duty, I risked your displeasure & my own interest to preserve the honour & future prosperity of Texas. I have the honour to he your Obt St Wm. Bryan General Agent for Texas The Government of the Republic of Texas To William Bryan, Genl. Agent Dr. To Amt of Cash paid and advanced to this date on account of Government $ 5,562.44 of private acceptances as advances made for Government 2,098.28
