Gen. S. Houston Dear Sir

I take the liberty to inclose to your care 2 letters for my friends in the United States. Will you have the goodness to forward them the first oppertunily I am now on my road to Harrisburgh with my family. After I have placed them in a safe retreat I shall be ready to accept of any station from you or our President where I can serve my country. I have Travis son along with me I hope you may succeed in driving the enemy from our Country. [ April 8, 1836] [addressed:] Gen. S. Houston Army Fare by Mr. Mann [2635) (BAKER to HOUSTON) Yours D. Ayers [Moseley Baker, Camp opposite San Felipe, to Sam Houston, April 8, 1836, stating in part: "The Enemy have all day been busily engaged chopping and hammering on the opposite side of the river, and but little doubt, can be entertained of their intention to attempt a crossing. We are about 95 strong ... if this position is to be maintained-more force ought lo be sent and sent speedily. The Enemy have fortified on the opposite side and have up the creek above town probably procured plank with which to build a Boat, we also are fortified. . . . One man ,vas killed by cannon shot this morning.... ")
