War Department Harrisburg April 7th 18~6

To Gen. Sam Houston Commander in Chief &c Sir

Major Diggs arrived here last evening with Jno. J. Linn and delivered him over to this department &c he will be detained &c. The steamboat has not yet arrived from Galveston. I have not heard as yet of the arrival of the vessels from Valasco &c but expect to do so hourly. Captain Smith has got thirty or forty men to enroll themselves for three months service he was to start this morning for the army with but I thought it best for him to remain today at least for the arrival of the cannon and provisions as he could be servicable in geting them on having a number of them here to be employed for that service. I am informed that a great many men are stationed at different points on the Brasos and many in the praries on this side a company commanded by a men by the name of Smith near Fort Bend we are not informed whether they are there by your orders or not. If not some measures should be taken to compell them to join the army.
