Genl. Samuel Houston Sir
Yesterday I arrived in this place from Matagorda with a detachment of Troops composed of volunteers & regulars-our movements were slow on account of the families that we fell in with flying their homes for a place of security. Our men were much fatigued from the heavy duties that was requisite in giving facilities as well as protection to the moving inhabitants, from which cause together with the natural state of this place will compel me to remain here for further orders. Permit me to refer you to Major Bennett, Capt. Cook & Lt. Sanders for further particulars. Respectfully I remain your Humble & obt. Sert.
