C. Neill, March 9, 1836, concerning the concentration of the Texas forces.] {2283) [LAi\lAR to CONVENTION] [March ·9, 1836] I propose lo the Convention, if they will constih1le me as their authorised agent, for the Stales of Alabama, Georgia, & South Carolina, to solicit aid for Texas in men, money & other supplies that I will at my own expcnce proceed there and use my utmost exertions to promote the interest of my adopted Country. I feel sanguine in the belief that l can raise Five hundred men, & the money necessary lo equip them & bring them into the Country, and perhaps I may succeed in procuring double that number-If my efforts should be unsuccessful, the government will not be injured one cent-if successful I will throw myself on the generosity of the nation lo reward me in future with what they may deem a fair remuneration for my services-if in their opinion I merit compensation- John T Lamar
