Dr Sir
The documents lost last evening have just been recovered from their watery expedition. Among them I found a letter addressed Lo Col. Carson, I opened it, & have to say lo you that in consequence of his absence I have taken charge of your papers as I informed you this morning, and will take pleasure in taking all possible care of them until you may call for them. I have just learned by a letter from Col. Morgan that his goods are boxed up. I have got some cloth from a gentleman (moving back) will have it made up for him by a lady in the neighborhood in a few days. I will take him under my particular care and make him low the let, until I hear again from you I learn your wishes respecting him. I am willing to take him under my care and particularly as he speaks l\'lexican- ,vill keep him safe subject lo your orders. I had a short note from my friend Carson from Trinity-had got on safely and was better than when he left. I regret his departure on some accounts on others I willingly yield. Write me by Col. Rusk.
Yours very Respt. Thos. H. Hill
