Gen'I Sam Houston

Dear Sir

I have been now three days al this place with forty men- two fine· field pieces- and one Howitzer with 160 Shells and 880 round Shot- four Hundred Stands of Muskets with a large quantity of powder Cannon and rifle- three Hundred Bcrrels of provisions two hundred knapsacks and a quantity of Tents- all of which I intended lo have forwarded immediately lo the Army- had T not have met with Col'n Houston yesterday who imformed me that he had orders from the Governrn't. to send back everything in the shape of arms or provisions- and to proceed forthwith lo Galveston Bay and fortify that place I met Col'n Hall, the Day before ycsterclay who ordered me to return to Velasco, and assist in fortifying that point- but as l had no orders from the Commander in Chief- I did not think proper to obey- as the Citizens of Brazoria, have nearly all fled U can be of no use here, and have therfore concluded lo march my men onto the army and send everything else back lo Velasco. I shall proceed up the river as far as Columbia- and there cross over lo the East Side of the Brassos- and from Lhense to the army- if you should have occasion lo write me I shall ever be pleased to receive your orders. I therefore, until we meet- beg you to accept my assurances of continued friendship. God and Liberty J.M. Allen, [Endorsed:] Infantry. Fr. J.M. Allen Brazoria 30th Mar. 1836.
