(2426) [HUSTON to HOUSTON]

Bank of Colorado March 25, 1836.

Dear General

ln pursuance of your order of the 8. Deer last I repaired immediately to New Orleans I was there detained about four weeks before the commissioners placed in my hands the necessary means for me to act with, I then made my purchases and shipped them to Matagorda and on my arrival at San Augustine found that that part of the country had been neglected by the Qr Mr who was expected to act at that quarter Mr Kellogg. He tendered me his resignation which I accepted. I then sent immediately to Natchitoches for such supplies as were necessary for the purpose of forwarding on the troops under the command of Capt Teal and on the arrival of these supplies I immediately dispatched them. I started for Headquarters in order to join you as soon as possible, and on my arrival at Nacogdoches found that our country was _again invaded & that it was necessary for something to be done, to arouse the people & by the advice of the Col. Commanding at that post as also a request from the committee of Vigilence & safety of that place, I returned to San Augustine and did all in my power to raise volunteers. Two days previous to my leaving that place I received an order to repair immediately to Head Quarters & report myself for duty. I then requested the Committee of V.&S. to appoint a Quarter Master for that division of the Volunteer Army they appointed R B Irvin and notified me of the fact and requested me to recognize him as such. I did so and placed in his hands the necessary means to forward on the Volunteers I then repaired immediately to Camp. I have yet about $3000. in my hands. I am ready to perform any duty though it should require me night and day, while my country is invaded by such merciless beings in the shape of men
