[SANTA ANNA to FILISOLA]
Army of Operations Excellent Senor:
I am advised by your Excellency's official letter of the 16th of this month, and by those reports enclosed of General Ramirez y Sesma and of Lieutenant D. Nicolas Rodrigues, Commander of Lipatitlan, of the present condition qf the city of Bejar and of the expedition which was headed for Lipatillan. According to the latest news, the Mexicans who accompanied Gonzalez numbered only forty, with which number he arrived at Lipatillan, having abandoned that point on the 15th of this month. I have ordered General Ramirez y Sesma, and I am also instructing your Excellency, lo slop all communications with Bejar, without permitting the passage of food supplies, only allowing trustworthy and discerning spies to pass, who may be able to tell with certainly the conditions found in that city and the plans of the rebels.
