[ROBINSON PROCLAMATION]

Proclamation

Executive Department, San Felipe de Austin, January 19, 1836 Freemen of Texas, - Yeslerday an express arrived from San Anlonio de Bejar, bringing despatches from J. C. Neill, lieutenant-colonel commandant of that post, communicaling the importanl intelligence that a force of two thousand five hundred men were a short time since al Laredo, and one thousand five hundred of them had advanced as far as the Rio Frio, eighty miles from San Antonio, and thal an immediate attack was expected: and also communicating the alarming fact, that only seventy-five men were in the Alamo under his command, and Lhat provisions were scarce. Under these circumslances they ask for your aid, to defend Lhe fortress against the enemy. Will you go? I regret to call upon you at this time of the year, when your domestic affairs demand your care and attention; but I am constrained by the imminent danger that threalens your brethren in arms, and by the danger to which the frontier inhabitants would be exposed, by neglecting to defend them, and by Lhe disgrace and ruin of the country, consequent upon delay. Rally then my brave countrymen, to the standard of constiluLional liberty, and join your united energies, and spread the mantle of your courage over your defenseless country. Your homes, your families, your country call, and who can refuse to obey? Your homes and your friends are assailed; will you refuse to defend them? The unproteclcd orphan makes the silent, but irresistable appeal: the prattling child, unconscious of its clanger, makes its holy invocation: the tender mother, the kind sister, and the beloved wife, cling to you with a fond hope and unshaken confidence in your patriotism and unshaken bravery. March then,
