I ha\'e just relurned from a Trip down to Galveslon Island whrre I have established for Lhe purpose of discharging my duties as Collector for this dislrir.l owing to head winds and a bad boat I ha\'e had rather a ruff lime and been detained longer than was anticipated when I left home- I found in the bay an English Schooner from Grenada, no cargo except a pincheon of Rum and a few demijohns of Gin. The Capt said he had brot ncgros, that they had been landed on point Bolivar [illegible] Morgans Two Schooners from New York wilh merchandise he had landed his goods about a week before got here refused to pay dulies, but has agreed to pay provided they are collected elsewhere u ncler same circumstances- The Flash which is the Vessel we were speaking of at San fillipe is a Large Oat bottomed Sehr. with a Large Cabin on deck and would by no means answer the purpose She has a short 18 Lb Cannonade on a pivot is [illegible] As to the politics of this section of country no person appears to have made up their minds except strangers & transient persons. The country has sufferecl a great deal for want of proper dissimination of the acts of the convention and those of the Council all appear satisfied with the acts of both when they are informed of the Truth, but some disappointed expectants of offices- I did expect to receive hy the Last mail a letter from some of my friends in the Council, but alas not one scrap of a pen and I am all anxiety to hear how you are getting on. I was surprised to see in the last paper a notification to the publishers of Newspapers has the Govr resigned or has he done as [illegible] judge! I am perfectly in the dark and there are many conjectures what is the cause of the notification. please inform me. I presented the notification of the Govr to my supplant Doclr Geo. M. Patrick, but he refuses to take his seat, I could not see Burnet, as he was on the Trinity when I passed. I sent a notification to Blackburn Hardin I have not heard from him, if members from other municipalities neglect their duty in the same way, I am fearful you will he without a governor- I have a difficult birth at present to make proper arrangements lo secure to the Government the revenue of this district on account of its
