Villa de Austin 25th Feby 1836

Dear Friend

Your favor by Col. Wharton under date 21st Inst. came to hand yesterday, I hasten to acknowledge the Rect. of it. I am truly sorry you speak of not coming up I think there is no necessity for Joel & Hassell to start yet and you would have plenty time to come up, I do believe we shall have a brisk summer with the Mexicans but they cannot possibly move against Texas until the grass rises and from the place where Genl. Santa Anna is to wit Monclova he cannot possibly move before the 15th next month for the climate is as cold as it is here the intelligence is positive that he is concentrating at that point. I do not know positively that I shall go out such is my anxiely to pay the debts I owe in the U. States I have had a mind to go there and endeavor to borrow the money as you say you know of no money money to be had here Wm H. Jack was here the other day to whom I was telling my necessities he suggested the practicability of getting a draft from McKinney & Williams at twelve months and having it cashed in N. Orleans if such an arrangment could be made with R. Mills & Co. I would be willing to give 2 1/2 prCent for drawing and security on any or all the property I have in Texas for the amt. I want say five thousand five hundred dollars which when cashed would bring about five thousand which is about the sum I owe, I think you could make the arrangment with Mills which would confer an everlasting favor on me, and then my services are entirely at the command of Texas otherwise I must certainly endeavor to pay my debts & consequently have no time to devote to my Country. Come up at all events and bring Eliza with you. Respects to Mrs. Perry, Joel, Hassell, and all Gulf Prairie friends. Sincerely your Friend bo not forget my clothes A Somervill We learn this instant that the Mexicans in great force are in
