Capt Williams letter speaks for itself He is extensively known in New orleans, and I particularly advise that he be sent there to recruit &c. and that he receive such instructions as to his further propositions as your wisdom may suggest. I have writlen this letter myself for \\'Ir Pease to copy and am greatly fatigued so must close, with my most affectionate regards to you all and ever more &c. When I commenced \\Tiling I expected Mr Pease would have left here this morning, but from information of Judge Cummings the Mill creek is up, and Pease is unwell-will leave here tomorrow. By the enclosed letter of Col Harcourt you will perceive that he has recommended ten other Germans. Capt Andrews of Brazoria who came here with Col H. speaks highly of the surgeons-says he is well provided with instruments and medicine-such surgeons we want. You perceive that Col H writes quite good English altho' a German. I am pleased with the candour of his statements Capt. Williams at my request has written al length, he has been long in the country and much in the interior, is a close and qualified observer of what he speaks about. If on the "advisory committee I should unhesetatingly send him to new Orleans with instructions for men &c. Texas must arrouse or all is lost, he will be active and diligent in forwarding men & means. Let him have your prompt sanction if at all, for our work must go ahead" or we must give up to the Tyrant. should you send me as I have sug• gested, I shall unite every exertion with the efforts of our friends to put forth men, amunitions and provisions. Depots must be fixed the winter is past, and after all the bustle & parade, in God's name, what has been done? Where are our arms, our munitions, our provisions for an army to withstand an invading force of 7,000 men, where are our public stores houses, & stores, a more wretched state of things from unskillful agents &c, cannot be im- magined.
