To The President or Executive of Texas
l have been used By Our Public Agents at New Orleans as the agent of the Government at this place and as such the Public Vessels and stores have been consigned lo me Mr. E Hall the Purchasing Agent at N. Orleans Requests Information in Relation lo the Benefits offered lo Volunteer or Regulars in our service in Land that he may be enabled to Inform those who embark in our cause he has seen the provision Lo pay them 600 acres of Land 13ut is not Informed whether or not they are entitled to the Benefits of the Laws of colonization on bccomeing citizens. He also Requests a List of the Commissioned officers and Public Agents and as he has attached Importance enough to the subject Lo write me several times I must ask you the· favr to forward to him the desired Information. If it is the purpose of the Government Lo continue to use me as their agent al this point It will be Necessary to Issue their order Lo that Effect and as my advances (considerably in cash) has amounted to about S3000 J would like Lo be informed at what Period l might Expect to be Repaid By Draft on our agents at some Period which I could use in New Orleans Lo meet my Engagements. The Government will Recollect that my claim is not of ordinary character 13eing advances made for want of Funds in our Treasury and could not much longer be useful to the Government unless sustained as It would necessarily produce a failure of my own Engagements abroad. I3ut at the same time I wish you Lo Receive assurances of my willingness Lo Render my Govt. any service in my power-Mr Hall advised me that he had shipped a Howitzer and shell pr the Brutus which It seems from some cause was left al the Brazos Of this I suppose her Capl Hurd will have Informed you as he has gone up to Washington-I have acted as agent Both al this Port and for that of La Vaca.
