[2094) I TRAVIS and BOWiE to S;\IITI-1 I

Commandancy of Bexar Feby 14, 1835 (1836 j

His Excellency 1-1 Smith Governor of Texas. Sir

We had detained Mr Williams for the purpose of saying that the Garrison is in a very destitute situation we have but a small supply of provisions and arc without a dollar. We therefore beg leave lo call the attention of your Excellency lo the wants of this post, as we learn th.al 20,000 dollars have Leen sent lo Copeno for the use of the Troops there. We think it but just that you should send us al least 5000 dollars which we understand you have al your command. We have borrowed 500 dollars here, which has long since been Expended, and besides which, we arc greatly in debt and our credit is growing worse daily. IL is useless lo Lalk of keeping up the garrison any longer without money as we believe that unless we receive some shortly the men will all leave. From all the information we have received there is no doubt but that the enemy will shortly advance upon this place. and that this will be lhe first point of attack we must therefore urge the necessity of sending reinforcements, as speedily as possible lo our aid. By an understanding of Lo day Col. J. 13owie has the command of the volunteers of the garrison, and Col. \V. B. Travis of the regulars and volunteer cavalry. All general orders and corrispondencc will henceforth be signed both until Col. Ncills return We have the honor lo be Your Obedient Servants

W. Barrel Travis Comd. of cavalry James Bowie Comt. of volunteers.
