By reference lo the Organic law you will perceive that the present provisional Government is lo continue, until a new Government is formed.-Some have supposed that on the assembling of the Convention on the first of March, the powers of the Provisional Government will ceasc.-This is not the fact, the business of the next Convention will be to form a Constitution, which must be submilled lo the people for their approval or rejection, before another Government can be organized, and this must of necessity continue until then. Dr. Gen.

1 recd. your kind note from Mr. Croce's & my papers by the boy. In a few clays after Capt. Gilmine and company arrived from Tenn. and most of them left for Goliad. J. W. Fannin Jr. was recently elected Col. & Major Ward Lt. Col. of volunteers at Refugio, almost unanimously, and all is harmonious there. Roclregas & 22 men of the enemy has been taken by Col. Grant and Rodregas has broke his parole & escaped. Report pretty well confirmed says Santa Anna is on the march for Texas in force, 1000 al Matamoras, 1600 al the Town of Rio Grand, 2300 al Saltillo, where Santa Anna is himself. 1 have ordered out 1/3 of the militia by volunteers if they can be had, by draft if we must. I have sent Capt. Teal an appointment of aid de camp for that purpose, and I hope you will give any aid in advice or otherwise that. he may need, and any other of the aids in the East of Texas. I am now fully satisfied that we may soon expect an attack at. all points, and we must be ready and meet and batllc with the 1!ncmy beyond the border of Texas.
