The Paymaster & Commissary shall be subject lo lhe same rules & regulations as are prescribed by law for the same officers in the Regular army. 4. ln cases of emergency, or a prospecl of a general engagcmcnl, he shall have power Lo call on Lhe mounted volunteers, to call out the militia of the counlry-and to co11ccnlrale his command al such points as may be necessary for the protection of the frontier.- 5. I wrote you from Gonzales a11d soon after left ther for this place, yet under different views from what I slated in as a sudden attack was expected on our garrison here and were called on for assistance. IL is however fully ascertained that we have nothing of the kind lo apprehend before a monlh or six weeks as the Enemy have not yet crossed the Rio Grande t80 mi.distant flom this place nor arc they expected lo make any movement this way until the weather becomes warm or until the grass is sufficiently up to support their horses we conceive it however important Lo be prepared as a heavy allack is expected from Sant Ana himself in the
