know our native countryman, approves of our cause of e_ternal opposition. Kindred spirits and countrymen, the war of L1ber~y has just begun. We have destroyed the last hold of the tyrant 111 our territory, but the prelude to the great tragedy has just opened. We have official communications which assure us of a large army on their march against Texas; as the frightened babe clings to _its mothers breast, our thoughts, as naturally l11rn to our native country for assistance, emboldened by the generous kindness and liberal feeling, which you have so nobly evinced in our cause. The authorities of this place, have requested us lo make an appeal to your generosity and liberality, for aid of provisions and bread stuffs, in sustaining the gallant band, that are now battling for the most sacred rights of man. We cannot close this appeal to you without acknowledging our warmest gratitude for the kindness you have already extended lo us, both in contributions and man. Already have many of your volunteers in our cause, measured arms with the tyrant, the fields of St. Antonio attest their chivalry, and our eternal gratitude. If heaven has destined this land to perpetual slavery, one consolation is left, that we will die with swords in our hands, condemning the tyrants yoke, and crying out lo our brethren of the North to avenge the blood of the innocent.
