Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 13, J 836 Dear Sir.-We are still here, detained by impassable roads and frozen rivers. In the last few days the cold has abated, and the ice is beginning lo give up here. We will certainly get off on to-morrow or next day. All is enthusiasm here in respect lo Texas. We had a meeting three nights ago al which upwards of 2,000 allended and, after much applauded addresses from the commissioners, they unanimously and enthusiastically adopted resol11Lions lamenting the loss of Milam, pronouncing our cause a SACRED ONE, and promising every conlenance and assistance, now an al all times. If the war lasts it is the opinion of the members of the legislature, which is now in session here, that Tennessee alone will furnish 5,000 volunteers. At our meeting the other night, a lellcr was drawn up by some of the young men of this Lown expressing a wish lo go lo Texas, and desiring the meeting lo furnish them the means of so doing. The ladies of Nashville immediately pledged themselves lo arm and equip a company of 200. They organized themselves, appointed a committee, and thirty young men have enrolled themselves. JL is thought that the ladies of this town will despatch a company of 100 in five or six weeks. For this patriotic conduct they deserve the admiration of the world and the eternal gralih1de of Texas. A vote of thanks should also be tendered lo H. R. W. Hill, of this place, who has given more than $5,000, who has directed all the steamboats to charge lo him the passages of all the volunteers for Texas, and has bound himself lo advance everything necessary here lo facilitate the removal of volunteers. We have consliluled him agent for Texas and you will please address him as such. Do have a vote of thanks tendered him and the ladies too; if possible. Enclosed I send you the correspondence between us. Also an article signed "Parliot;" also some editorial comments on the meeting, and I also send you my pamphlet, "Curlius," which has been unvicrsally and
