My dear Friend

We have just learned lhal Sanla Anna i~ coming in great force and as J cannot remain quiet al home when my country is invaded I therefore beg of you lo come immediately as I am ex lremcly nnxious to sec you before l make another campaign do come up, l shall leave tomorrow for Bastrop and when I return I shall expect you will be here say in about Len or twelve dollars days, when you come up if there be any of my shooting irons below you will please bring them up for me, I have written Sharp lo day and requested him lo send my Rifle and pistols by the mail carrier, my double barrcl'd shot gun is al his house I believe and if il be not loo much trouble please bring it up. My respects lo all Gulf Prairie friends

Dear Sir, I wrote you an official letter last night as ComdL of this Posl in the absence of Col Neill; & if you had taken the trouble lo answer my letter from Burnam's, l shouId not now have hcen under the necessity of troubling you-i'Vly situation is truly awkward & delicate-Col Neil left me in the command-but wishing Lo give satisfaction to the volunteers here & not wishing to assume any command over them I issud an order for the election of an officer lo command them with the exception of one company of volunteers Lhat had prcviou~ly engaged Lo serve under me. Bowie was elected by two small compancy's; & since his election he has been roaring drunk all the time; has assumed all command-& is proceeding in a most disorderly & irregular
