We arc now on our march to lake Matamoros, a city of about '15,000 inhabitants, we arc now in 150 miles of the place- should we sucecd in laking it the war will probably encl in the course of two months- and I shall return home some tinw during the summer The amcricans have already lakl'n one town of 5,000 in- habitants, lwo hundred and fifty amcricans whiping 1500 mexi- cans and loosing only 4 men The amcricans have whipp1·d in c·vcry 1:ngagenwnl that they have had which gives them cvny confickncc of their further success.
