In obedience to orders recd from you I requested a statement of the force under the Command of Major Ward to be returned to Head Quarters & I recd no answer to my letter to Major M. I beg leave to report that unless some measures are taken to reduce both officers & men to obedience that whole will degenerate into "Independent Volunteers". Col Fanning as he informed me under orders from Govern- ment has taken some Cannon stores &c for the Expedition to l\fatamoros. I have the honor to be Sir Your Obt Servant Geo. W. Dear Sir

I have seen and heard a great deal relative to Council mat- tcn; since I have been here--! beg leave now to state to you my firm adherence to the Governor of Texas-who signed my Com- mission-if you would say what we shall do-for we have heard Houston is no longer General-but that Fanning is appointed, for any information if you give me some orders & inform me what will become of the Army &c I would esteem it an honor- y csterday our election was held here. The result is 13ryom 45 Waller 42 Collinsworth 37 Rrigham 35. The opposition ticket- at -········•-one not got more than 19. The result from Brazoria I have not heard-
