Dear Sir

I have been started several times to join you according to orders but as often heard that you had changed your Head Quarters & now I know not where to find you. There is a report here that you have been superseded in the Command of the Army by Johnston & Fanning - if so please let us know what is the state of the case - I speak in behalf of several officers here who do not nor will not know any other General than Sam Houston - for independent of personal regard for you - / Jul & know there is no other man in Texas capable of leading an army into the field - But beward of Fanning - he is I think aiming at the highest command- I am told you are Nacogdoches but will return to La Bahia & deeming it my best course to proceed to San Antonio I will there await all orders & letters.

Very truly Your friend Geo. W. Poe

[Addressed:] To Major Genl Sam Houston Army of Texas Nacogdoches
