My Dear Sir Enclosed I send you a copy of a declaration of Independence made and entered into al Goliad on the 20th Inst which I hope you will approve of. I have nol closed my eyes for the last 24 hours in consequence of a report that reached this place, of which you are apprised of, consequenlly am not in a situation to write you as I could wish. The storm, I believe, has blown over and nothing of a serious nature is to be apprehended. I leave this for Velasco tomorrow on recruiting service, having been made a Lieut. of the Legion of Cavalry. I should like to have Dr. Pollard made Senior Surgeon in the regular army. Adieu, and may you be as happy in proporlionary happiness as is wished you by Yrs Tmly Wm G. Hill P.S. Enquire of John R. Jones about Gov. Smith sending 500 copies of the "Telegraph" under the franking privilege. 2d. Of his threatening to dissolve the council. 3d. Of his dangerous doctrines of "prerogative" as claimed in his message. 4th. Enquire of Borden & Baker about the 500 newspapers 5th. His orders lo the commander in chief is in contravention of the power delegated to the council, in the 4th arts. of the organic law, under the head of military. 6th. See the Gov. & get my quantum of N. papers for the municipality of Nacogdoches. 7th. I am authorized by Col. Barrell lo say he will retire. 8th. Or induce the Gov. to suspend his message. 9th. Explain that Fanning is only authorized lo concentrate troops - & they to elect.
