friends of three hundred leagues would result lo the great interest of our country, for estimated 50t per acre would by $664,200, sixty hundred sixty four thousand and two hundred dollars. Now I presume that there is not one man engaged in the speculation who would not be willing to do Texas that service when he could do it and not make money by it. A matter of speculation I believe and hope will not he so much an object with any one of them as to induce them to refuse such terms as would leave them harmless. I do not myself know all who are engaged or interested in it hut could through my partners ascertain. I make these suggestions to you and intend this letter as a private letter lo you with a hope that you may be able from it to pul on foot what would calm the public mind on lhe subject of land speculation which has been used so prejudicialy and so unjustly by tyrants and demagogues.
