1 here was deposited in my office on the 8th January, Instant, Sundry notes of hand, (commonly called promisory notes) and instruments purporting to be notes not signed, to be deducted from the claims of Claimants amounting in all to twelve hundred Seventy three 191/21100 $1273.19½ Since which time I have in Liquidating the accounts of Alexander Dunlavy paid $21.00 his note as also in Liquidating James Bowies account I have credited his Note of $112.00 with $60.00 the two amounts making $81.00 to be deducted from the amt of notes &c filed in my office which leaves the debets of the Government at $11085.76½. the manner in which these notes &c are placed in this office cannot go to the Extinguishment of the debts now Liquidated and drawn for but must eventually to to ofset the demands of those to whom the Government is indebted therefore under that view of the case the debets of 'the Government up to the 21st January, Instant, is $12277.96 which latter sum I am of opinion in the proper debets of the Government. not seeing my way Clearly I have thought proper to report the facts my Records show in what manner the notes &c are consumed.
Very Respectfully I Remain Your Auditor J. W. Moody
January 22nd 1836.
