Sir: Your communication of the 5th instant is this day received and submitted lo the General in Chief, and I have the pleasure lo inform you that your proposed tour to the southem and eastern portion of your command is approved. I am inslrncted to inform you, however, that the state of affairs west of the Mississippi may soon require your allenlion, if not your presence, in that quarter; accordingly, you will be pleased to await orders and instruction at New Orleans.
