You have been received by the Provisional Government of Texas, as a volunteer lo defend Lhe Republican principles of the Constitution of 1824, and the rights of Texas, on the same footing with olher volunteers, consequently you are required to proceed without delay to join the volunteer army before Bejar, under command of Brigr. General Edward Burleson and subject lo his command, You will retain the immediate command, of the Mexican troops you now have with you, and of such others as may join your corps.

San Felipe, Deer. 3rd 1835 To His Excellency the Governor & General Council of Texas. Having been requested by an honorable member of the council, to give my views on the organization of an Army for the defence of Texas, during the present war, I proceed lo do so, with great diffidence however, as my military experience is so limited. In the outset, I unhesitatingly say, that I approve cherfully the views & reasoning on the subject of the Regular Army, expressed in the Communication of Capt. J. W. Fannin jr.; and I shall therefore confine myself more particularly to the subject of the organization of volunteer corps. As considerable Lime must necessarily elapse before the regular Army, can be raised, & brought into the field duly equipped for service; and considering the hostile attitude in which our common country stands in defence of her rights against the usurpations & Tyranny of a dictatorial army & bigoted clergy, it seems to me all important that an efficient corps should be immediately raised & provided
