money wher~with lo procure them. Not a soul came near me, until finally seeing the inexpediency of my remaining there isolated for any longer time, I chartered a vessel for this port. 2. I shall, with all speed, proceed to land my men, which are about 150, composed of Americans, French and Mexicans; after which I shall have lo land the cannon (4), balls, grape shot, arms, and other articles, so that I cannot abandon this place, without your express orders, or that of the individual exercising the Executive branch of the government. It is however necessary that I may arrange my future operations, as well as be released of the charge which bears heavy upon me, on account of the payment of the charter-party of the schooner which brought us hither. For this reason, I wish you, or the individual exercising the Executive powers of the government, would take the trouble of meeting me al Brazoria immediately. I shall proceed there also, and we may communicate with each other. But this requires promptness of action, as the vessel remains without the bar, exposed to all dangers, for which I am responsible; also, as I am destitute of all means of furnishing the troops with necessaries; and inasmuch as it is absolutely requisite that I should be informed of what I have to do. Let it be thus done my friend, and excuse me, for I am so feeble that I cannot even continue any longer this leller; therefore I conclude it thus, making the same applicable also to my friends Zavala and Alpuche, whom salutes your affectionate friend. Jose Antonio Mexia. A true translation from its original Spanish on file, which I certify.

[1380] [MIRACLE DEPOSITION)

[Pedro J. .Miracle, Deposition to the Governor and Council, December, 3, 1835, reporting that certain influential liberals in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas had sent him to Texas to interview Viesca and Zavala as to the true character of the Texas Revolution, and stating that the liberals are awaiting only the assurance that the colonists are fighting for the constitution before rising to attack Santa Anna's troops, which are enroule to Texas.]
