Mr. B. informs me that Mexia offered from New Orleans his services to the Colonies, which, however, were rejected, because that General would not go sufficient lengths in support of their designs, and therefore did not inspire the requisite confidence. Finally, he has declared confidentially to me that Gritten is a traitor to General Cos and to the Mexican Nation, for he has seen his correspondence with the revolters and knows well that he is daily giving them information from Bexar, being aided therein by a Mexican officer of "Civicos" whose name he forgets. Gritten has the precaution to send his advices along with other communications wherein he appears to defend the Mexican cause. You will herewith receive a commission in the Regular army of Texas. It is hoped that it will be acceptable to you and that you will hold yourself subject to the orders which may hereafter be forwarded to you. So soon as the General Council will make the necessary Enactments you will Receive Special Instructions with the proper forms requisite to the recruiting Service you will please notify me as early as possible of your acceptance or non acceptance of your appointment
