the measures already adopted by the provisional government should fail, the proposed division may supply the deficiency; and if any disaster should befaU our troops in their first engagements, the knowledge that an army was being raised for their aid and support, would prevent their spirits infuse into their minds as unwavering constancy, and render them invincible, at the same time it would owe the enemy with respect. To carry this project into effect, lo raise, arm, and equip and transport the contemplated division to Texas, your memorialist proposes to furnish ten thousand dollars of his own private funds, which he believes he can raise in the United Stales, and to obtain the balance which may be necessary, from his · friends, and others devoted to the cause of liberty. In consideration of all which, your memorialist earnestly solicits the approbation and sanction of the provisional government, in order that he may proceed without delay to carry this proposition into execution.
