Honorable general council of Texas:-

The undersigned, approaching your honorable body with great respect, begs leave lo represent, that, although he has for some time been a silent spectator of passing events, he has felt the deepest solicitude for the safely of our country, and the result of the warlike contest in which she has engaged. He was opposed to the hostile measures which were adopted, until the attack was made on the town of Gonzales by the Mexican troops: but from that moment he viewed her cause as just and holy, and was deterred from engaging actively in her service by considerations with which he forbears to occupy the attention of your honorable body. But at the present dangerous crisis of our affairs, he believes that he should be highly censurable if he should remain longer inactive. Considering the disorganized situation of Texas at the commencement of the struggle, she has performed wonders; and fortune and victory have smiled upon her first efforts in driving from her soil the myrmidons of depotism. The brilliant achievements of her volunteer army before the walls of San Antonio, and the fall of that important post, will, no doubt, produce signal results, and be attended with the most important consequences. But so far from considering that event as the termination of our difficulties, your memorialist views it as the commencement of a bloody war, and from his knowledge of the character of the people and the principles of the party with which we have lo contend, and the best information he has received, he feels convinced that we shall see upon our borders early in the spring, a numerous and invading army, whose object will be, to crush at a single blow, the energies of Texas, and to t'-Xlinguish the
