Head Quarters, Texas, 30th Deer. 1835.

Army Orders

All volunteers arriving on the shores of Texas, or coming within its limits, will, forthwith report lo Head Quarters by express; and immediately proceed to Copano; or to the Vicinity of that Port, (if they should not land there in the first instance) and await further orders,-Not failing on their arrival at that station, to report the number, and condition of the command, with the names of the officers,- their grades; as well as the names of the rank and file of the command.-The term of time for which the command may chuse to volunteer,-when commissions will issue accordingly. The term of service will commence from the date of the first report, made for Head Quarters; Col. P. S. Wyatt is ordered in Command of the Port, and its vicinity for the present, and until further orders: Semimonthly reports will be made to Head Quarters, and monthly returns Certified. Lieut Wm. Eaton is ordered to discharge the duties of assistant Q. M. General to all troops who may land on the Gulf Coast. Sam Houston, Comdr in Chief of the army. By order. George W. Poe, Acting Adjutant General. (1659] ·[HOUSTON to SMITH] Headquarters, Washington, December 30, 1835 Sir: I have the honor lo enclose lo you a muster roll of Captain P. S. Wyatt, and one also from Captain King. Both the company and the detachment are under the command and subject to the orders of Captain Wyatt. I have had much difficulty in getting them to volunteer for any definite period. But the ordinance left a discretion with me lo accept their services for such time as I "might think the good of the service required." I did think it necessary to specify some certain time, and that lime, I conceived, ought not lo be less than three months; if so, it would be burdensome to the country, without any corresponding benefit. I think they will eventually all volunteer for during the war. They are all on the march for Copano, where I design they
