San Felipe 28th Deer 1835
Mr. David Mills Dear Sir.
There was some money deposited in your strong box together with a memorandum of the amount and disposition which was to be made of it, say, $33.00. It was given to me by Elisha Moore to pay over to William H. Patton & Co. Not having an opy to see Mr Pit was left with you. I wish you would be good enough to pay it over to him and take his receipt in favor of Moore, as from circumstances I have neglected it too long; and retain the receipt until called for. I have written to you and sent word frequently for some cloathing &c &c of which I can hear nothing. I assure you I am in great need and cannot be supplied here - Independant of my suffering great inconvenience, I realy feel ashamed to see strangers with whom my situation compels me to confer daily. It looks bad and makes a bad impression. It is not so much my own pride, as a pride of Country which I possess which prompts me to·make at least a decent appearance. And I confidently hope you are not so far devoid of patriotism as not to think of these things. You Know every stranger to this country either has letters lo, or must see the Governor. Think of this and let me not be neglected I have no time lo leave my office for one moment. My complicated duties are arduous and confine me night and day. Will you make some arrangement for my speedy relief? In great haste I am
Respectfully Henry Smith
